Before It’s Too Late…

The thought, I waited too late, is haunting me. My dear friend of almost 40 years died and all the things I wish I had said or done are coming up. It’s set up a spiral of thoughts.

Between Lee and I, we have lost half a dozen friends in the last year. It’s become increasingly hard to process. Several of them were expected and some distressing, the last one keeping me awake at night.

But losing people you love isn’t the only reason to embrace the idea of taking action before it’s too late Here are some other thoughts to consider.

SAY WHAT NEEDS TO BE SAID

Did I say everything I wanted and needed to say to my friend? No, I didn’t, I thought it was understood. Now, I would feel better knowing my appreciation had been fully expressed.  I’ve been very intentional with my 102-year-old Mother. I’ve had plenty of time to consider it, write it and say it to her, lol – thank heavens!

What is clear to me is if something tugs at you to say to someone dear, please do it. You don’t know if you will have the chance later. There were phone calls I felt the urge to make and didn’t to three of my loved ones who have recently died. I am left hoping they can hear my message in spirit.

DO WHAT IS IN YOUR HEART

Is there something you’d like to do – explore, learn, try?  I’m realizing that the adage, “it’s never too late” is not completely accurate. Life circumstances and health can be real barriers. I’m thinking we need to be saying, “Why not now”?

I’m digging into reading and exploring more of the things I’m wanting to learn – as a therapist and spiritual healer. It’s very gratifying. There are things I want to teach too. I highly recommend you embrace the “why not now “philosophy to move forward in your life.

GO WHERE YOU DREAM OF GOING

Of course, I’m going to say, if you dream of going somewhere, please Go. I know, this isn’t a good time, but it’s certainly a great time to dream and plan. Lee and I have a long list, and we are mapping out when and where, there’s so much to discover and learn.

Travel has been my greatest teacher. Being exposed to other ways of life stretches my understanding of human nature, exposes myths about different cultures, and creates tender and compassionate understanding toward others. I can’t recommend it enough.

LIVE FULLY

This is what hurts the most about my friend who has passed. He got to the point where he couldn’t live fully. For a myriad of reason, he shut down, closed himself off to the mystery, joy and discovery of life, and left too soon.

While you can, please give yourself permission to grab life and live it to the fullest. Everyone’s idea of what that means is different – just allow yourself to have the dream and step into it. Get help if you need it. Don’t wake up and say, “it’s too late”.

The idea of taking action before it’s too late was prompted by my sadness for my friend who just passed. Yet, it also serves as a rallying call for me and maybe for you too.  Move forward – say what needs to be said, do what your heart calls you to do, go where your dreams take you and live fully.  The idea encourages me, hopefully it does the same for you.
