It’s been a weekend of supporting the arts and I’ve been inspired by everything I’ve experienced. There was a Swahili Festival with drumming and dancing from the African Diaspora, and the local incredible debut of the play Angels in American which highlights the issues in 1980s with HIV and the hostile politics of Roy Cohn, who was Trump’s mentor. Both provided important perspectives.

As the public arts (NEA), radio (NPR) and TV (PBS) are slated for Federal defunding, it’s becoming more important than ever to support your local arts. If you want your part of the world to stay open, informed, and culturally enriched, we have to fight to keep this avenue of personal expression, growth and enlightenment alive.
Here are some thoughts:
KNOW HOW THE ARTS ENRICH YOUR LIFE
What’s been your experience with the arts and how have they enriched you? Do you listen to NPR, watch PBS and attend local events? According to the America’s For the Arts, there are clear, data proven benefits to the arts from lifting up local economies, to enhancing personal creativity and innovation, creating community cohesiveness and improving health and mental wellbeing. BE MORE ACTIVE IN SUPPORTING THE ARTS
As a founder of the non-profit GreenRoom Exchange, to highlight the richness of other cultures through the universal language of the arts, I can attest to the impact.** There is wonder and awe in the creativity and mastery other cultures showcase. There is learning and connection with creative people all over the world that illustrates across the globe, we are more alike than different. There is a common humanity, love and connection that can be made. Seek it out. My life is continually enriched by these experiences.
ATTEND EVENTS AND GIVE TO LOCAL AND NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
Next week we host Gandharva, a classical and world music group from India – it will be an exciting new experience with a different culture. Check out what you have going on in your area, attend their events and support their work. Give NPR and PBS your support. Your help is critical. ***
