With the Winter Solstice marking the shortest day and longest night of the year, this turning point and its increase in light is like an invitation. What is it inviting inside of you?
If you are like me, you are ready for change. The political upheaval in our country is taking a toll and constant uncertainty is wearing thin. This has been a long difficult year. More the reason to go inside and determine how you want to take more control and manage your life in meaningful ways.
Here are some thoughts on how you can be proactive to generate more light for yourself
CREATE A PERSONAL RITUAL
There is a reason why ancient cultures celebrated this event – the increasing light marks the return of longer days, warmth and the ability to be more productive. We all suffer a little more during the dark season. While thousands gathered at Stonehenge to welcome in the light of a longer day, you too can do a ceremony with light. Light a candle, light a fire, burn some evergreen to create some smoke or use incense. Make it special to mark this change. Make it your own.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO LET GO OF?
As with any ritual, the starting point is in the release of what no longer serves you. I want to stop following awful news. With the realization that so much of it is AI or bot generated, it serves no meaningful purpose and only keeps me in knots. A release makes room for things that are more beneficial. What release would be helpful for you?
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BRING IN?
Unlike New Years resolutions which can become a set up for failure, what can you Allow? What will you let or bring into your life that will lighten you and give you more joy? It’s a time for rebirth. Be open to what wants to happen in your life – something easy, like welcoming in more light! I want to meditate more so my intentions and thoughts are clearly centered on what is meaningful to me. For you, maybe it’s something you read, a new perspective, an idea to explore.
Let me know how this resonates with you and reach out if you want to explore it!
