When Hard Work Isn’t Hard

1971When hard work isn't hardFor the past two weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of watching and listening to my husband prepare for a big concert he put on with 14 other musicians. Oh my, they worked hard in what’s been a labor of love. There’s no money that can compensate for the individual and collective time and energy that goes into making those two hours of music cost effective. And yet they love it!

At the sold-out concert the atmosphere was electric – the musicians were totally on fire with the passion and joy of their performance. No surprise, the audience was ecstatic, explosive with appreciation. It was a beautiful example of doing what you love so fully that hard work isn’t hard anymore.

This is contrary to what our capitalist culture teaches us – don’t do it if you’re not getting paid. But a new consciousness is emerging. People are fed up with the compromises to their true selves that the corporate world expects.

I’ve seen the change in my Manifestation Course too. In our last class, a number of the participants put it out there – they’re ready to step into what they love, at the risk of leaving security and good pay behind. Claiming their true passion, knowing that it will be hard work, is worth it!

What’s involved in redirecting yourself to what you love so the hard work doesn’t feel so hard? Here are some thoughts:

Claim And Grow Your Gifts

When you align your work with the things you have a passion for, work flows and the joy involved readily surfaces. Even if you start with a few of your natural talents, like compassion and working with people, letting those things be your guide gives you more satisfaction than doing something that doesn’t resonate with you.

Get the training you need to launch yourself in what you love by taking yourself seriously enough to obtain the needed credentials. To be the best you can be, give your gifts and talents a chance to expand and grow. You can soon be the expert in your field.

Go straight into the heart of what you love – get yourself trained and grounded in what utilizes your gifts.

Do The Hard Work And Know Why

“Anything worth doing, is worth doing well” says Hunter S. Thompson. Mick Jagger said it’s “worth overdoing”.  That’s what I’m seeing. When you really put yourself fully into what you love, you do it knowing hard works involved. Because it’s important, you devote as much time and energy as you need to be your best. No matter how hard, you do it anyway.

More important, clarify why you are doing it. Your sense of purpose and passion for what you do is more important than what it is. When you know why your work is personally compelling and significant, it will spur you on. It’s what makes others know why they should engage with you too.  This is the foundation for your success, no matter the field.

The effort of taking the deep dive into what makes your heart sing is worth it when you know why you’re doing it

The Joy And The Effort Are Contagious

The pleasure involved in doing what compliments your interests and innate talents is like a renewable fuel. Your joy fills your cup to work harder and give more back. It’s a flowing reciprocal dynamic. This is at the heart of why hard work doesn’t feel like a burden.

Your passion for what you do is one of its most significant selling points. It makes you radiant and becomes what people see. They want what you have, what you are selling or doing simply because you are the most persuasive example of its success.

Your passion and joy make you the shining poster child for what you do.

You’re Living A Life Worth Living

When what you do and who you are the same, the inside and outside self are simple mirror reflections of each other. There is no more disconnect from one aspect of your life to another. The zeal and excited interest in what you are doing makes each day an exciting new challenge. Imagine the joy of that congruency!

When you achieve this, you know there is no more waiting until you retire, move, change job (or whatever excuse you have), to live the life you want.

You are really living when you are full on with what you love.

At the end of the concert, the musicians hung out at our house – it was a love fest. At the end of my Manifestation Course, we hung out after class for the same reason. Heartfelt connections are easy to make when you connect with your passion and live it full on. There is an excitement that gets transferred to everyone involved. Living your truth is compelling, exciting and worth all the effort it takes. It renews itself.
