The big picture perspective often guides me to my own wisdom as I deal with difficult issues. I’ve turned to it time and again to find wisdom dealing with client issues, in my consultation and in my personal life. It provides a clear path through complexity. Here’s how:
IT PUTS SITUATIONS IN CONTEXT
I liken the big picture perspective to a scenic outlook where you view the vista below. If you look at a situation that’s causing difficulty from a similar high vantage point, you will notice how it fits into a larger sequence of events. It helps you see everything within its relevant context. It’s like a 3D timeline that helps you understand the root cause of current situations. You notice, nothing happens in a vacuum.
IT HIGHLIGHTS UNDERLYING CAUSES
The big picture shows the details of causal factors that impact behavior that are problematic. It takes you out of the small-minded sequence of petty interactions to better see the triggers and underlying factors that affect a situation. It gives you greater understanding.
UNDERSTANDING MAKES THINGS EASIER TO ACCEPT
With acceptance, you have a non-judgmental, more sympathetic frame of reference to understand situations that may be difficult to accept, creating a more compassionate mind set. It can create the softening that’s needed for tolerance to prevail, thus reducing internal stress and negative self-judgement. Acceptance is higher order thinking.
IT HELPS YOU FIND THE WISDOM TO MAKE BETTER DECISIONS
Once you accept and understand the causal factors, you’re in a neutral vantage point, where all variables are distilled into clear concepts, out of the conflict of differing opinion. It’s the Wisdom Perspective where you can think, speak and make decisions with more insight and good judgement.
