What happens when you focus on your purpose? I have been humbled noticing it with those around me. The Tibetan Buddhist Monks from Tashi Kyil Monastery in India stayed with us when they were here conducting workshops. We also attended a ceremony conducted by the Institute of Whole Life Healing to welcome a King from the Igbo kingdom in Nigeria to build a unified bridge of healing between Africa and American.
What do these people have in common as they follow their life purpose? Here are some observations.
PURPOSE IS GREATER THAN YOU – YOU’RE A CONDUIT FOR THE GREATER GOOD
Rather than fulfilling an ego-based need like more money, attention or glory, following your purpose operates on a higher level. It is greater than you. Being a conduit for uplifting, serving, or healing others, like the Monks and Igbo King, represent values like love, cooperation, unity, justice and peace, It’s a higher order calling, not a job, that creates transformation in you along with others.
FOLLOWING YOUR PURPOSE REQUIRES INTERNAL ALIGNMENT
Finding your purpose requires that you align yourself with your god given gifts, interests and values. The congruency between your internal and external self creates authenticity that becomes your rocket fuel. It powers your motivation, enabling you to give and do more with a high degree of dedication. It gives back to you in a way a regular job simply doesn’t offer. The Monks and the Igbo King are continually energized by their giving.
PURPOSE CREATES MEANING AND SATISFACTION
When you are in alignment, representing a greater good, there’s a deep level of satisfaction and meaning to life. There’s a sense of peace and an absence of doubt that comes with this. Seeing the Monks peaceful, gentle, and mindful presence was inspiring. Being dedicated to healing the wounds between African and American takes clear vision and dedication that is hugely important. Being committed to something greater than yourself puts you into a community of other likeminded people – you are part of a worldwide healing network. It’s life altering.
