We saw an excellent example of why it’s good to set your standards high before you start to do something. We attended the Nowhere Else Festival for musicians run by a husband wife team of the group, Over The Rhine. Billed as a “world-class boutique music and arts festival”, they had carefully curated every detail to reflect their high values. We were mightily impressed.
It was not only an exciting display of how to run a business, it was an important reminder that when you decide to do something, you get to set the standards. Go ahead and set them high – that’s what gives you a good result and a good reputation.
Here’s a few things to consider in setting your standards high.
EVERYONE INVOLVED NEEDS TO MEET YOUR STANDARDS
What was fascinating was every musician showcased exhibited a high degree of musical competence in singing, instrumentation and intelligent lyrics like the hosts. They were all stars. It was not about what was popular, but what was excellent. Yes! That’s what we try to do with our non-profit too. This can apply to everything you do.
BRING IN EXPERTS
To make something complicated work well, you have to bring in the experts. From designing a website, ticketing, festival ground layout to setting up a sound system. It was all excellent. For any business venture, notice how cutting corners hurts you. Its best to do things right.
PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS
You can tell when every detail is considered. From good food, clean restrooms, interesting activities, to keeping a schedule. It was excellent. Even our AirBnB reflected this to the point of laughter – they thought of everything. Go ahead and think things all the way through, as the customer or client. It will inform what you do.
LIFT OTHERS UP – GIVE EVERYONE CREDIT
Another lovely attribute was how the hosts, Linford and Karin, lifted up every presenter, artist, production person and volunteer with loving commentary and credit. The result was like a warm family reunion – an intentional vibe they wanted to create. Lots of love, lots of joy, lots of peace. High standards can do that!
