If you’re like many, you’ve been juggling a lot of balls – but what’s most important to move forward? I did a workshop on Finding Your Leading Edge Of Change and people loved how it helped them determine where to put their attention.
See if this helps you find your leading edge of change.
REVIEW WHERE YOU PUT YOUR ENERGY OVER THE LAST YEAR
If you draw a circle and place the months around it, like a clock dial, you have a snapshot of your year. Next to each month, start writing what happened –a quick headline of the highlights of the month. Notice the frequency of certain things, the diversity or the lack of variety. What took most of your attention and what needed more?
NOTICE WHAT GAVE YOU A LIFT, AND WHAT LEFT YOU FEELING FLAT
Here is the important part. As you review your years’ worth of activity, feel into the energy of each event or activity. That means reconnecting to the feelings you had inside as you participated in each thing. Now recognize those things which lifted your energy, like champagne bubbles rising inside and those things that left you feeling dull and flat. Put a star * by the uplifting ones and an x by the ones which created a negative impact. Study this chart and make sense of the pattern of your activities.
PUT YOUR FOCUS ON THE MOST POSITIVE
The next phase is making decisions about where to put your energy in the coming year. Notice the starred, positive uplifting things and determine if you can make them the focus of your attention. I’ve used this as a way to consciously say Yes to the things which give me a sense of exhilaration, and No to things that may be financially rewarding, but also create a sense of dread. Now begin your planning to flesh out those things which bring more joy and uplifting feelings – you have found your leading edge of change!
