It was a weekend of honoring family; my Mom turned 105, it was the 26th anniversary of my sister’s sudden death, and soon it’ll be 15 years since my Dad died. All three have contributed to making the world a better place, profoundly influencing me.
My sister’s death 26 years ago changed me. Her strong spirituality influenced me, her 4 young children and many more, touching lives. No loss has hurt as much. It went unnoticed that the next day was our Mom’s birthday. 10 years later, our Dad died, a man of great virtue, a leader in our country, as Chief Judge of the Federal 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. All of this was put into perspective as we gathered to celebrate Mom turning 105. It made me aware of the impact they have had on shaping our lives.
Here are some of the ways they’ve left the world a better place.
CLARITY OF VALUES
The values of love, compassion, order, justice and honoring the law were foremost in their life. My Mom and sister set high standards of ethical and moral behavior, Dad changed our country, upholding laws for racial and gender equality. At a time when these qualities are being trampled upon, it helps to be reminded that being clear on where you stand is vitally important. Shine a light on your values.
FOCUS ON GOOD EDUCATION
Remember when getting a good education was essential to launching your life if you wanted to make a difference and make something of yourself? It still is, especially in the face of attempts to dumb down our citizens and rewrite history. Now education is under attack as liberal brainwashing. Never has education been more important if we want to ensure equality and freedom. Do your part to support education to combat oppression.
LEAD BY EXAMPLE
My sister, father and mother would be horrified if they saw what was happening now. Mom, at 105, is not aware. They led by example, upholding virtues, living with discipline in a way that’s now ignored. We can choose. Please live as an example to those around you so positive values of integrity, ethical and moral righteousness are maintained.
How does this speak to you? I’d love to know what you think.
