We celebrated my niece’s wedding and the message from her brother was to recite the Navajo prayer, the Beauty Way. It was a perfect blessing about living in balance, in harmony with your mind, body, soul and surroundings.
I have shared this before, but I want to share it again. It’s that meaningful.
In beauty I walk
With beauty before me I walk
With beauty behind me I walk
With beauty above me I walk
With beauty around me I walk
It has become beauty again
See if this explanation of the true meaning of the Beauty Way helps you appreciate it too.
AS ABOVE SO BELOW
The ancient Egyptians imparted their wisdom about the importance of living in balance through the 2nd Hermetic Principal, As Above, So Below, As Below, So Above. Meaning that when you honor and live according to divine spirit, your greater good, you are living in harmony with your true nature and with your earthly purpose. This is also the Navajo meaning of living in beauty, it’s an interactional relationship, one enriching the other.
LIVE IN HARMONY WITH YOUR COMMUNITY
Finding, creating and living in harmony with your community is also implied in this prayer. It means practicing kindness, generosity, doing to others as you would like done to you, as all spiritual traditions teach. I don’t know when I witnessed such a huge community of loving support as I saw with my niece. It was inspiring.
HONOR YOUR ENVIRONMENT
Of all the concepts embedded in this prayer, this is the one that hurts the most, to see how far we have strayed from living in balance with nature. Honoring it as part of all living things. But we can all do a part to practice good environmental stewardship, recycling, using solar energy, protecting wildlife and supporting conservation efforts.
How are you living in balance, honoring the Beauty Way? It’s a template for living, and a focal point of what I teach in my work. Reach out if you’d like to know more.
