Finding what makes you marvel is one way to ignite your interest and motivation. I was needing it badly lately when the weather was dreary, and my energy was low. The word “marvel” came to mind and by focusing on it, I quickly switched my mindset.
Getting through the final months and days of winter can be a challenge. There is nothing inspiring about gray skies, cold wind, and a desire to hibernate – we have to search for interest elsewhere. I found that a different perspective helped. Suddenly, I was able to gain a sense of satisfaction from the inside out.
Here’s how focusing on what makes you marvel can help.
MARVEL AT SOMETHING NEW
Give you yourself the opportunity to experience something new. Whether it is something you read, look at or experience, you will be stimulated to find inspiration that can move you forward. Push yourself to get out and do something different.
I have attended several remarkable music events. One featured grammy award winning jazz musicians, the Jeff Coffin Trio. They knocked us out. The piano player was a wonder, commanding big respect from Lee, who knows who’s good. The other was an event our non-profit, GreenRoom Exchange, hosted which highlighted a Venezuelan harp player, Larrry Bellorin and an Appalachian banjo player, Joe Troop. We were charmed and wowed by their dynamic, and unexpectedly beautiful music.
MARVEL AT NATURAL AND MAN-MADE WONDERS
The winter landscape has its own beauty. The architecture of trees is stunning and much more apparent in winter, the squirrels and birds more easily noticeable and the early signs of spring grab your attention. There’s plenty going on if you look at it through the lens of wanting to be awed. I do it daily when I walk in the park and I’m always awed when I visit my friend’s horse farm.
I’ve taken a photo journey to places I’ve been and places my friends have travelled. I am constantly bowled over by stunning architecture – Egyptian temples, Petra in Jordon, Ancient Greek and Roman ruins, colonial architecture in Mexican and Europe. It’s everywhere. Take yourself on a virtual or literal tour if you want to marvel at our own history.
MARVEL AT YOUR OWN GROWTH
When was the last time you took a good look at yourself and appreciated how far you have come? If you review your own trials over time, you will likely be amazed at how you have persevered to get to where you are today. Give yourself credit.
I am sure you, like me, have had many chapters of your life leading to where you are now. Pay attention to how you have weathered many storms and triumphed to find the good in many situations. You are likely a true success story that hasn’t fully been told. Notice and marvel a little. It’s good for you to give yourself that recognition.
If you need to amp up your motivation and interest now, notice what makes you marvel. You can pay attention to something new and fascinating, you can marvel at nature or natural wonders and you can marvel at your own perseverance and accomplishments. It will change the way you think about yourself and your situation.
