I had an awesome experience leading a Sequential Intercept Mapping workshop here in Lexington. Thanks to the leadership and support of our Mayor, Linda Gorton, we were able to receive a grant from SAMHSA Gains Center to host it.
Professionals who work with people with mental illness from across our system of care came together to ID our services and the gaps that result in people entering the criminal justice system. Mental Health providers like New Vista and Eastern State Hospital and UK Health Care were joined by NAMI Lexington, the Hope Center, the Office of Homelessness and Prevention, Police officers, restorative justice professionals, Paramedics, Jail staff, Judge John Tackett, Probation Officers. VA reentry specialists and many committed people from LFUCG who support these efforts.
On the first day we mapped our system of care and IDed our priorities for change that will enhance our services, creating diversion opportunities that will keep people from becoming incarcerated. The second half day was spent doing action planning around those priorities – developing additional crisis services, more affordable housing and data sharing!
Everyone left very excited about what we can achieve breaking down our silos of care and working together! What a joy and honor to be part of important work that will certainly make a difference in our community!
Thanks to WKYT for the great news coverage!
