I conducted a 2017 Manifestation Review workshop last week. The purpose was to determine what you’ve done this year that holds the most potential for development in 2018. It was interesting, people had several aha moments that weren’t expected. In fact, positive things took different forms and not all negative things were bad. Read on to determine how a 2017 year in review can help you plan 2018.
One of the fundamental principles of doing this review is understanding the nature of energy. The Law of Vibration says every event has its own energetic signature – that you can feel. Energy can not be created or destroyed, only transformed. So, it’s helpful to look at the good, bad and ugly of a year to recognize how it’s energetically influenced you and how you might want to transform it in 2018.
Here is how I did it, some of the questions I asked and some of the reflections on its meaning. See if this helps you determine how you fared in 2017.
CREATE A CIRCLE WITH THE 4 QUARTERS OF THE YEAR MARKED
I had people create a circle on the floor with the four quarters of the year marked – January, April, July and October. This also follows the seasons and if you line it up with the four directions, January being North, April East, July South and October West, you have created a medicine wheel.
In Native American ceremonies, Medicine Wheels that are aligned with each direction hold different energetic properties, like the seasons. They help us understand the impact of these seasonal differences. North holds our potential with Winter being a time for reflection. East is about new beginnings, the early creation of Spring., South is about the hot energy of growing, the summer corresponding to being busy. And the West is about the fall harvest and bringing the fruits of our labor to completion.
START BY STEPPING INTO EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR
Slowly walk around the circle, starting in January, allowing yourself to remember what happened in each month. It helps to write it out ahead of time, so you won’t struggle to remember.
Notice, the energy of each event. You will be surprised, as the class was, at how profoundly different each event feels. Deeply feel into each thing and notice how you influenced it or it influenced you.
NOTICE WHERE YOU HAD THE MOST POSITIVE EMOTIONAL CHARGE
Step into the area where you experienced the most positivity. It could be a vacation, a happy work event or family occasion. Notice the zoom in your energy. It was striking how everyone could easily feel it’s joyousness.
What made this event or situation so positive? It’s important to know this for yourself. As much as possible, you want to carry that feeling throughout your year.
WHERE DID YOU EXPERIENCE THE MOST FLOW?
Next step into the area that had the most flow. That means that everything seemed to happen easily and effortlessly. Things fell into place without a lot of work. You know when this is happening because it seems fun and all the moving parts come to together naturally, as if they were just waiting to happen.
What’s its relationship to the most positive experience? Are they close together, are they interconnected? Notice if there is a correlation between the positive and the flow experiences. That seemed to be evident to many people.
WHERE DID YOU EXPERIENCE RESISTANCE AND STAGNATION?
Where did you experience stagnation or resistance? Often this is experienced as a period of struggle, doubt, worry, and anxiety. Deeply experience the energy of the struggle. Ask yourself what your role was in this. How were you responsible for it or for at least putting yourself in that position?
Compare the energy of stagnation and resistance to the energy of flow. What do you learn from this? What does it say about what you like, want, and need? Are you creating the resistance, reacting to it or what? Usually there is a reason that you need to understand. Notice the relief flow holds in contrast to stagnation and resistance.
WHAT HOLDS THE MOST POTENTIAL THAT YOU WANT TO CONTINUE?
Now step into the energy of what you think holds the most potential for 2018? What makes this special? How does it feel? Notice that it most likely holds a very positive charge compared to other things that you experience.
Notice it’s relationship to the events of flow and positive emotion. Can you see a connection between these things? Most people did, though not necessarily a direct correlation. For some, the feeling state of their potential was similar to the flow and positive events, and may have helped create the potential.
HOW DOES THIS POTENTIAL AFFECT YOU MENTALLY, PHYSICALLY AND SPIRITUALLY?
Finally, take stock of how this potential you want to develop in 2018 affects you spiritually, mentally, and physically. You want all three to be positive.
From a spiritual perspective, your potential usually includes a sense of being inspired and purpose driven. It feels good and raises your energy in a positive way.
Mentally, there are ideas and plans that take time to consider and the energy of it is exciting and challenging. You feel motivated to flesh it out.
Physically the plans need to result in action. It’s fulfilling to bring things into being, even if it’s overwhelming, the physical action phase can be energizing.
How did this review work for you? Can you see how what you have energetically created this year lays the ground work for where you are going next year? It’s interesting to realize that our past and present really do create our future and all these energies inform each other. We learn from the things that cause resistance and stagnation as much as we learn from our positive activities. Often these opposite experiences help fuel to the next action we take.
