Being grounded is essential to your physical and mental health, yet it is often taken for granted. Being grounded helps you stay present, out of your head, more focused, improving your overall health and mental wellbeing.
If you are distracted, obsessed with things, worrying, or fearful then chances are you need to take steps to be more grounded. Our culture is so outer focused, we often lose sight of how to check in and reground ourselves.
Here are some simple ways and benefits to being more grounded.
GO OUTSIDE
A friend is traveling out west, camping, immersed in nature, noticing its positive effect. Ah yes, I wish I was there. There is nothing more soul satisfying and cleansing than being in nature, close to the earth. It’s the ultimate way to get grounded. To do it at home, just go outside, walk in a park, garden, commune with the trees, sit in the grass, absorb the beauty, the bird sounds, and the slow lovely energy of mother earth. It will quickly re-ground you. My dog and I do it twice a day.
CLEAR AND LIGHT UP YOUR ROOT CHAKRA
Your root chakra is at the base of your sits bone and is your energetic home base providing you a sense of safety, security, and grounding in your body. To clear this energetic earth element vortex, bringing it back to balance, do this. Close your eyes, imagine drawing up the slow, loving mother earth energy into that area of your body, using your hands to wave away the negativity that is keeping you ungrounded. As you draw in the cleansing earth energy, see the red root chakra color in your mind’s eye. Do this for several minutes. Notice how calm you begin to feel.
BE PRESENT – BREATHE
At anytime, anywhere, if you are too in your head, you can re-ground yourself by using a mindfulness technique. Look around, notice your surroundings in detail and take in long slow breathes, exhaling even slower. Do this for several minutes. Feel gratitude for the blessings in your life, letting go of the stress occupying your mind. Check in with the present with love, bringing a small half smile to your face, hold it for as long as you need. Ahhhhh
